Selling Furniture & Mattresses: Your Goals, Your Success!

My article “Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude” made my phone ring with questions about goal setting. Here is the link to that article: http://peteprimeau.com/your-attitude-determines-your-altitude/. I promised that I would write an article about goal setting so here are some great ideas about goal setting from the top retail salespeople.

Passion- You need to be emotionally vested in your goal. If the accomplishment of your goal does not excite you, do not bother with it. You will fold at the first obstacle. Do not waste your time. Find a goal that you are passionate about. Your goal should bring a smile to your face when you visualize your successful attainment of it!

What- Write down your goal with a definite date for its achievement. Write it in the present tense, for example I sell one hundred thousand a month. Carry it with you! Break it down into smaller steps with deadlines.

Why- Why do you want to achieve this goal? What benefits will you enjoy from achieving this goal?

Where- Where are you in relation to your goals? What is the gap between where you stand and your goal? How do you close the gap?

Obstacles- What stands in the way of you achieving your goal? Develop a game plan that addresses the possible obstacles that could derail your success.

Game Plan- What are the actions you need to take to achieve your goal? What new skills do you need to develop? What new knowledge do you need to acquire? What seminars should you attend? What book should you read? Who can help you? Break your goal down into smaller goals. Create a sequential list of actions that need to be taken with appropriate time frames.

Visualize Success- The more often you visualize yourself having achieved your goal the sooner you will accomplish it. How does it feel to achieve your goal? The intensity of your visualization will also determine how fast you achieve your goal.

Advertise- If you are a visual person, advertise your successful goal to yourself. Carry a picture that represents success. If it’s your dream home, get a picture of it. Use the picture to visualize it. If you want to take this to the next level go to open houses, touch your goal. This will help you succeed faster.

Review Daily- Carry your goals with you and read them at least once every day. Brian Tracy recommends writing your goals down everyday. When I am on top of my game I follow Brian’s advice.

Weekly Assessment- Once a week review your progress. What did you do right? What could you do better next week? Do it the same time every week. Be brutally honest with yourself.

Change Timelines- Sometimes you need to adjust your goal’s timeline. Never compromise the eventual outcome. You might need to add extra planning steps. You could possibly discover that you need to develop a new skill that you had not anticipated.

Inspiration- Find inspiration everywhere. Look for it in books, cds, mp3s, dvds, videos, and in the sky and nature. Here is a video to get you started https://youtu.be/j4Xfd4vGAE8. What are your secrets to success and goal setting? While I am a teacher and an author first and foremost I am a student. Please share with all of us! Thank You!

Wishing You Success!
