Question: I am new to mattress sales. Several people in my family told me that Pillow Top mattresses are the best. I was disappointed when in my training I was told that Pillow Tops are just a different way of sewing a mattress for a different look and it’s neither good nor bad. What is the truth?

Answer: The truth is very close to what you were told in your training. Pillow Tops are neither good nor bad. Pillow Tops come in all price ranges. The quality of the bed is determined by the quality of the raw materials and the workmanship used to assemble those raw materials. There is a bit more conformability to the top of the mattress on the edges of a Pillow Top that some customers might prefer because the edge is free to move instead of being drawn tight to the tape edge. This difference is very slight. When working with customers if the question about Pillow Tops comes up, I would let them know that it is just a different way to sew a mattress.
